Hiking in the Glemm valley

A mountain summit for everyone!

Only where you have reached by foot, have you really arrived. Therefore, we would especially recommend that you explore the surroundings of Viehhofen, as well as the Glemm valley in hiking boots. Enjoy the panoramic mountain views as well as the many smaller details of the landscape. The Pinzgauer grass mountains reach an altitude of nearly 2.000 m, attracting both easy-going hikers and ambitious summit stormers. When you eventually reach the summit, the landscape is luscious, with green rolling meadows. With a little effort, nearly every summit can be reached. On the way up to the summit, there are plenty of places to take a break, whether it be by a small, hidden mountain lake, or a stopover in one of the numerous Alpine huts.

... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...

The entire region in and around Viehhofen has been developed around hiking and tourism. A great service which should be taken advantage of, are the operating lifts in summer, which take you comfortably and swiftly to first mountain peak from where you can continue on foot to the second, third and fourth. Perfect!

Ambitious mountaineers will naturally want to attempt to reach the peaks of the Hohentauern, which are amongst the highest in Austria (including Austria’s highest mountain, the Großglockner). Here you can go beyond the 3,000-metre-limit on high Alpine terrain, surrounded by breath-taking mountain panoramic views of the Alps.

The Glemm valley is a hiking paradise. In addition to "normal" hiking trails, panoramic, mountain and family hikes, there are also numerous nature trails and themed trails. Inform yourself! You can obtain all local maps from the Tourist Office.

Hut guide

A special highlight is our hut guide. A hike, especially with children, is most fun when there is stop for something tasty to eat, or a cool drink. Our hut guide can be either downloaded online or picked up from the Tourist Office.
