Church & Parish of Viehhofen

Chronicle of Viehhofen Parish

1767 August Gruber, an area farmer, builds a chapel, which unfortunately falls victim to flooding in 1786.

1793
The ecclesiastical consistory grants an Excurrendo Curatie for Viehhofen. The chaplain from Zell must travel to Viehhofen in order to hold church services.

1796 Despite resistance from the merchants of Zell, a church was built and consecrated in Viehhofen. St. Joseph was its patron saint.

1800 A spiritual ministry is founded, the parsonage being built by the community itself, and the church contributing 2,200 guilders of its own. The land was again donated by the same farmer.

1891 Viehhofen became a parish.

1951 The church acquired three bronze bells.

Services at Viehhofen parish church are held every Sunday and public holiday at 8:30 a.m.  On high feast days, there are occasional slight changes, with details published in the current parish bulletin.
