Ski passes

Skitouring

Anyone who is not satisfied with more than 270 km of slopes in Glemmtal, may also make several ski touring. Please inform yourself about the current snow and avalanche situation! In any case, the information of the Salzburg Avalanches Warning Service has to be observed.

Ski Schools

In Viehhofen, you will find Oberlader ski school in the reception building of Landal Holiday Park.

Skiing & Ski Lifts

In Viehhofen, there is a bunny lift for beginners right next to the main road.  More interesting for most people, however, are the big ski area in Saalbach-Hinterglemm the Kitzsteinhorn glacier ski area in Kaprun and the Schmittenhöhe in Zell am See

Snowmobil City

In Snowmobil City fun and action await you on a specially prepared snowmobile course and you also have the chance to ride on a Snowcat.

Check out our Tips section in the menu. You can book organized tours to the most beautiful sights in SalzburgerLand through the Viehhofen tourist information office (offered in cooperation with Vorderegger Travel). Tour programs are also available through Alpentouristik

Swimming

Swimming is possible in Viehhofen in the solar-heated outdoor pool on the Hecherhütte for restaurant guests. In the neighboring towns there are outdoor and indoor pools, in the summer attracts the Zeller See. A special highlight is the new Tauern Spa in Kaprun.

Taxi

There are several taxi companies in the valley. Ask you landlord or at the Tourist Office.

There is a public phone (coin-operated) directly in front of the "Nah&Frisch" grocery store on the village square.

Tennis

At the entrance to town is an outdoor sand court. Depending on the weather, the season there is from the beginning or end of April until October.

Tobogganing

Toboggan run at the Reiterkogel (lit until 11 pm) is included in the ski pass.  At the toboggan run at the Biberg in Saalfelden you get a reduction with the Viehhofen guestcard.

Trains

The closest station (a stop for all long-distance and express trains) is 9 km away in Zell am See.  A post bus runs every hour from Zell to Viehhofen. For train information, visit www.oebb.at

A village with tradition

Viehhofen is an independent municipality with approximately 600 inhabitants and belongs to the district of Zell am See, the capital of Pinzgau. The emblem of Viehhofen is the wild sow, named after the northeast "Sausteigen" mountain.

The history of the parish of Viehhofen

In Viehhofen traditions and customs play a major role. Below you will find a chronicle of the parish of Viehhofen:

1767 host, August Gruber built a chapel, which was unfortunately destroyed in the flood of 1786.

1793 The ecclesiastical consistory grants an Excurrendo Curatie for Viehhofen. The co-operator from Zell am See had to travel to Viehhofen to conduct religious services.

 1796 the church in Viehhofen was built against the will of merchants/tradesmen of Zell am See. The church patron saint is St. Josef.

1800 A spiritual ministry is founded; the parsonage being built by the community itself and the church contributing 2,200 guilders to the project.

1891 Viehhofen becomes a parish.

1951 the church gets three bronze bells.


Nowadays, church services take place in the Viehhofen parish church every Sunday as well as on bank holidays at 09.00.
