The local home and ski museum in Saalbach is a place where you can connect the past and present of the Glemmtal. The local house is an old farmer's fiefdom from 1350 that shows the way of life and culture of the former residents. The Ski Museum presents the development of skiing in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, from the first wooden skis to modern carving skis. Here you can also admire the successes of local ski stars such as Hans Enn, Bernhard Russi and Hermann Maier.

The local home and ski museum is not just a museum, but also a lively meeting place for locals and guests. Events, guided tours, workshops and exhibitions take place here regularly, keeping the cultural heritage of the Glemmtal alive. A special highlight is the special exhibition “The bee and its importance for us humans and the ecosystem”, which shows the fascinating world of bees and their contribution to sustainability.

Directions

If you like hiking, you can take a nice walk from Viehhofen to Saalbach, which takes about an hour. You simply follow the cycle path, which takes you through meadows and forests until you reach the center of Saalbach. The museum is located directly opposite the Käpt'n Hook outdoor swimming pool.
Another sporty alternative is to cycle to Saalbach. You can take the Motorikweg, which leads from Jausern to Saalbach. This trail is designed specifically for cyclists and families and features various stations where you can test your skills and balance. The motor skills trail is about 7 km long and takes about 30 minutes. The museum is just a few meters from the bike path.
The fastest and most convenient way to get to the museum is by car. You simply drive on the L111 from Viehhofen to Saalbach, which is about 8 km long and takes about 10 minutes. There are several paid parking options in Saalbach. From there it is only a few minutes walk to the museum.
An environmentally friendly and cheap option is to take the bus to the museum. You can take line 680, which runs from Zell am See to Hinterglemm and stops in Viehhofen and Saalbach. The bus stop in Viehhofen is near the town center, the bus stop in Saalbach is at the Schattberg X-Press. If you have the Viehhofen Sommercard, which you receive when you check in at participating businesses in Viehhofen, you can use the bus for free.

There are other great activities you can try in the immediate vicinity of the museum: the motor skills trail and the Käpt'n Hook adventure pool.

The Motorikweg is a cycling and hiking trail that leads from Viehhofen to Saalbach. It is approximately 7 km long and offers 24 stations where you can train your agility, balance and fitness. Whether spider webs, stretching oasis, alpine water ski wall or kite surfing simulator - there is something for everyone here. The motor skills trail is ideal for families, athletes and nature lovers. It is accessible free of charge and can be walked from spring until the first onset of winter in late autumn.

The Käpt'n Hook adventure pool is an outdoor pool that offers a water area of 1,000 m² with a water slide, wild water canal, massage jets and gargoyles. Here you can refresh and relax on hot summer days. For younger guests there is a wide and tube slide, a children's cinema and a playground. On the ship's deck you can enjoy a delicious meal in the panoramic restaurant.
