Experience a very special piece of Pinzgau tradition on Christmas Eve

Two wonderful traditions from the region and beyond come together on this day, inviting everyone to celebrate the peaceful Christmas season.

The Peace Light originates from Bethlehem and has been distributed by Scouts in Austria and many other countries since 1986. It symbolizes hope, peace, and togetherness. Each year, the light is lit in Bethlehem and then passed across Europe. In Viehhofen, the Peace Light will also be lit on Christmas Eve and shared with all visitors. It is a moment of reflection and a symbol of peace that we pass on to one another, carrying it in our hearts and into the world.

At the same time, you will experience the tradition of Bachlschneiden, a custom from the Pinzgau region. In the past, before the peaceful Christmas celebration with the family, last-minute work had to be done on the farms. One of these tasks was sharpening the knives – an action that was believed to secure luck and prosperity for the coming year. Those who no longer mastered this old skill had their knives sharpened by a blacksmith.
Here, you also have the opportunity to continue this tradition – simply bring your knives with you!

Enjoy a festive atmosphere while warming up with a hot mulled wine or punch and gather with friends and neighbors.
