The Animals of Farthing Wood Colin Dann

Riddle:

Those who understand this will smile,
because the clock hand moves backwards.

Hint 1:
The animals are always in a very specific position.

Hint 2:
Are the animals pulling faces?

Hint 3:
The clock hand shows the direction — backwards — and the smiling animals show the numbers on a clock.

Solution:
Since the clock hands are moving backwards, you should also arrange the numbers in reverse order. Each animal represents a number on the clock. All the animals are pulling faces, but only three are smiling.

Alice in Wonderland Lewis Carroll

Riddle:

Everyone likes little riddles,
when everything runs as smoothly as wheels.
If you haven’t guessed the three brown ones,
the fourth will come unexpectedly.

Cut, tear, fold or break,
there’s no need to hesitate.
The booklet is not only for reading,
otherwise you won’t find what you’re needing.

Divide the brown ones by four
and follow the instructions here:

1)
Fold the card in half like me,
and don’t be too careful, you’ll see.
When the triangles stand at 90 degrees,
you’ll spot the number with ease.

2)
Fold the flower triangle in, edge to edge,
so that a new line appears.
Together, fold it backwards,
the number is well hidden on the other side.

3)
The tiny triangle, small as can be,
is hiding behind a stone.
The stones are piled from small to large –
what number could this show?

Hint 1:
Be brave. Tear the booklet apart.

Hint 2:
Follow the instructions carefully.

Hint 3:
After folding, the thick lines on each card form a number.

Solution:
The first three riddles are on brown cards. You need to divide them into four cards. Fold the cards according to the instructions, and the lines along the edge will form a number.

1) Hold the card with the fingerprints vertically in front of you. Fold the card once across its width along the guide line, placing your fingers on the fingerprints. Fold the guide lines at the corners individually and stand them up at a 90-degree angle. If you now hold the card by the fingerprints and turn it towards you, you will see an 8 on the back.

2) Hold the card with the flower vertically and fold the flower in along the first guide line. This creates a second fold line, which you then fold backwards. On the back, the number 7 can now be seen along the edge.

3) Hold the card with the stones vertically and fold the card backwards so that it is behind the smallest stone. Now fold the card in a zigzag so that the stones lie on top of each other. The edge lines reveal the number 2.

Emil & the Detectives Erich Kästner

Riddle:

Look closely,
and you will see it too.
If you can’t see it,
you’ll need me.

Hint 1:
You urgently need a tool here.

Hint 2:
Now you just need the correct order.

Hint 3:
If you place the magnifying glass in the right spot, you can see a number through the QR code.

Solution:
Use the lines on the QR code as guide lines for the magnifying glass. When you look through the magnifying glass in the right place, the numbers become visible.

Solution number: 432

Heidi Johanna SpyriIn

Riddle:

The steep mountains can be folded,
stand them up and hold them tight.
Just as the lightning bolt demands,
the one shown on the book.

Hint 1:
After every mountain comes a valley. That makes folding easier.

Hint 2:
After folding, all that’s missing is the lightning bolt.

Hint 3:
Fold the sheet as shown and place it into the lightning bolt on the book.

Solution:
Fold the sheet in a zigzag along the guide lines and place it into the lightning bolt on the book. From the right angle, you can see the numbers 924.

Solution number: 924

Around the World in 80 Days Jules Verne

Riddle:

Finger food is always worth a journey,
even when you turn the card over.
Visit all our restaurants,
with your fingers it’s no trouble.
Back and forth, and forth and back,
together it all makes sense.
You definitely haven’t lost your way
if you start at the Oberwirt.

Hint 1:
Finger & food = finger food

Hint 2:
Place your finger on the restaurant you are looking for and turn the card to move on.

Hint 3:
It leads from one restaurant to the next. Put the letters together.

Solution:
Start at the Oberwirt and place your finger on the map to cover the fingerprint at the Oberwirt. Hold the card with a second finger and look on the back to see which restaurant you need to go to next. Repeat this until you have visited all the restaurants. When placed in the correct order, the letter fragments form a word and the solution number.

DRE - Oberwirt
IHUND - Bergrestaurant
ERTF - brandgut
ÜNFUN - Hecherhütte
DACH - Glemmerhof
TZIG-FE - Dorfstadl
RTIG - Burgerbaron

Hint 2:
All the words are wrong.

Hint 3:
Which colour is left?

Solution:

Moby Dick Herman Melville

Riddle:

The path was long, you can barely see it,
a telescope would now be a dream.

Hint 1:
How can you get a telescope?

Hint 2:
The lines surely have a meaning too.

Hint 3:
The sheet must become a telescope.

Solution:
Roll the sheet up to the lines and look through it. By overlapping the parts, words become visible.
