Vogt tower Museum in Zell am See
The Vogt Tower in Zell am See is a historic building that showcases the history, art and innovation of the city and its region. It was built in the 12th century as a defensive, guard and representative building for the Counts of Lechsgemünd-Frontenhausen-Mittersill-Pinzgau. Today it houses the Vogtturm Museum, which delights the whole family with exciting exhibitions and interactive discovery stations.
In the Vogtturm Museum you can marvel at enigmatic artifacts from prehistoric times, immerse yourself in the world of the Middle Ages, admire romantic paintings and experience the pioneering spirit of the people who have shaped Zell am See over the centuries. A special attraction is the special exhibition “The Porsche Design Principle”, which can be seen until the end of March 2024. There you will learn more about the connection between the famous automobile manufacturer and the city of Zell am See.
The Vogt Tower is not only a museum, but also an architectural jewel. It has a trapezoidal floor plan, five floors and a height of 23.5 meters. It has been renovated and modernized several times, most recently in 2020. From the viewing platform you have a wonderful view over the city and Lake Zell. The tower is also a testimony to the city's eventful history, which was plagued by fires, wars, epidemics and natural disasters.

Directions
The cycle route from Viehhofen to the Vogt Tower is around 10 km long and takes around 40 minutes. It leads along the Saalach, through meadows and forests, and offers beautiful views of the mountains. The route is mostly flat and asphalted, only the last section in Zell am See is a little steeper. You can park your bike at the train station or on the lakeshore and walk to the tower.
The hike from Viehhofen to the Vogt Tower is about 12 km long and takes around 3 hours. It follows the same route as the bike route, except that at the end you don't go to the train station, but directly to the tower. The hike is easy to moderately difficult and requires good footwear and plenty of water. You can take a break along the way and enjoy nature.
The car journey from Viehhofen to the Vogt Tower is around 13 km long and takes around 15 minutes. It runs along the B311, the L111 and the B168 and is well signposted. There are parking spaces at the train station or near the tower, but they are often limited and chargeable. You should therefore arrive early or drive outside of peak hours.
The bus ride from Viehhofen to the Vogt Tower is around 14 km long and takes around 20 minutes. You can take bus 680, which leaves every hour from the Viehhofen Ortsmitte stop and arrives at the Zell am See Postplatz stop. From there it is only a few minutes walk to the tower.
