Panning for gold in Rauris: In search of Tauern gold

In the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park in Salzburgerland lies the picturesque Raurisertal, also known as the “golden valley of the Alps”. Here you can experience a unique adventure: real gold panning at the original historical locations of the Goldberg Group.

For centuries the Rauris Valley was the center of gold mining. During the peak period, around 10% of world production is said to have taken place in the Raurisertal and the neighboring Gasteinertal. According to estimates, 120 tons of the precious metal are still stored in the Goldberg Group.

Today visitors can try their luck at the two gold panning sites Bodenhaus and Heimalm. With professional guidance, you can wash fine gold flakes out of the water. Of course you can take the golden souvenirs of your summer holiday in the Hohe Tauern National Park home with you!
