Panning for gold in Rauris
In search of Tauern gold
In the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park in Salzburgerland lies the picturesque Rauris Valley, also known as the "golden valley of the Alps". Here you can experience a unique adventure: real gold panning at the original historical sites of the Goldberg Group.
For centuries, the Rauris Valley was the centre of gold mining. In its heyday, around 10% of the world's production is said to have taken place in the Rauris Valley and the neighbouring Gastein Valley. It is estimated that 120 tonnes of the precious metal are still stored in the Goldberg Group.
Today, visitors can try their luck at the two gold panning sites Bodenhaus and Heimalm. Under professional guidance, you can wash fine gold flakes out of the water. You can of course take the golden souvenirs of your summer holiday in the Hohe Tauern National Park home with you!
So, pack your wellies and your gold panning pan and set off in search of your own piece of Tauern gold!
